Promising European karatekas clash for continental crown in Prague

The elite of underage Karate gathers in Prague (Czech Republic) this weekend for an anticipated edition of the EKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships.

Over 1000 young karatekas from 48 countries are travelling to Prague this weekend to clash for the European title. This record of participation showcases the tremendous strength and popularity of the sport on the continent.

WHAT

  • The 2022 EKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships is the biggest continental tournament for youngsters in Europe.
  • One of the most anticipated competitions for aspiring athletes in the continent, the underage European championships gather the future stars of the sport in Europe.
  • The last edition of the EKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships was held last year in Tampere (Finland)
  • Turkey topped the medal table of the 2021 edition with 17 medals including 9 golds. Italy with 17 medals and Azerbaijan with 7 medals also registered successful performances in Tampere.

WHERE

  • The event will take place at Sports Hall Fortuna
  • It is the first time that Prague hosts an age-group continental championship.
  • Prague welcomed the 28th edition of the Senior European Championships in 1993.

WHEN

  • The tournament is scheduled for June 17 to 19
  • The event begins on Friday, June 17 at 09:00 (local time GMT +2) and is set to finish on Sunday, June 19 around 20.00 (local time).

WHO

  • No less than 1084 athletes from 48 countries are registered to participate in the tournament.
  • Turkey and Spain present the largest delegations with 38 athletes each.

HOW

  • The competition follows a knockout format.
