The 2023 Senior European Karate Championships will be held this week in Guadalajara (Spain). Scheduled from March 22 too 26, the EKF Senior Championships will crown the new heroes of the sport in the continent.

WHAT
- The EKF Senior Championships is Karate’s biggest event in Europe.
- The tournament reaches its 58th edition and follows the successful editions in Gaziantep (Turkiye) in 2022 and Porec (Croatia) in 2021.
- Over 500 athletes from 45 countries participated in the 2022 EKF Senior Championships in Gaziantep. Hosts of Turkiye topped the final medal table of the event with nine medals including seven golds. Croatia and Spain also registered impressive performances.
WHERE
- The tournament takes place in the city of Guadalajara, located in Central Spain, 60 kilometres (37 miles) from the capital of Madrid.
- The event is held at the Palacio Multiusos sports hall.
- Spain are a major powerhouse nation of the sport and have hosted many first-class events over the last years, including the Karate 1–Series A event in Pamplona last year and the World Championships in Madrid in 2018.
- Guadalajara welcomed the EKF Senior Championships in 2019.
WHEN
- The event is scheduled from March 22 to 26.
- The eliminations of Individual competitions will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
- The eliminations of the Team competition will take place on Thursday and Friday.
- The bronze medal bouts and finals of the individual categories are scheduled on Saturday.
- The bronze medal bouts and finals of team categories are slated for Sunday.
- The Para-Karate competition will be scheduled for Saturday (Visually Impaired and Intellectually Impaired) and Sunday (Wheelchair athletes)

WHO
- Over 500 athletes from 48 countries have registered to take part in the event.
- Defending champions Serap Ozcelik Arapoglu of Turkiye, Anzhelika Terliuga of Ukraine, Eray Samdan of Turkiye, and Andjelo Kvesic of Croatia will be among the many stars fighting for gold in Gua
HOW
- The tournament follows a Knockout competition system.
- All the elimination rounds of each of the categories are held back-to-back with the medal bouts being held on Saturday and Sunday.
WHAT ELSE
- The EKF Senior Championships are the main qualifying event for the 2023 European Games.
- The best three athletes in each category at the end of the event will qualify for the European Games
