The Executive Committee of the European Karate Federation (EKF) today met to discuss the development of the sport in the continent. The meeting was held in Gaziantep (Turkey) on the eve of the 2022 EKF Senior Championships.
In his opening address, EKF and WKF President Antonio Espinós stressed the importance of continuing to work as a united team amid the current challenging circumstances.
“This is the first time since the start of the pandemic that we can have a meeting of the Executive Committee with all the members attending the event in person. Thank you all for making it possible and for being able to be here with us despite the difficult situation in some of your countries.”
“We came a long way over the last years, and we have demonstrated that working as one united family, we can overcome all challenges. We are proving that we can not only deliver safe events during the pandemic but we can also elevate our sport.”
Mr Espinós took the time to thank the Turkish Karate Federation and its president Aslan Abid Uguz, who was in attendance, for their efforts to provide the best conditions for the events in Gaziantep this week.
A number of key topics were discussed during the meeting, including updates on the upcoming tournament this week, reports of the different EKF Commissions, and the preparation of the EKF Congress on Tuesday afternoon. The EKF calendar for 2023 was also reviewed.
