Competition draw officially kicks off Karate event of 2023 European Games

The Karate tournament of the 2023 European Games is about to start. The draws of pools and matches officially opened the competition in Bielsko-Biala where Karate is poised to be one of the highlights of the anticipated multi-sport event.

EKF and WKF President Antonio Espinós said at the opening of the draw:

“The road to the 2023 European Games has been arduous and long for our sport but we are pleased to be finally here. As an inaugural sport of the European Games, it is a privilege for us to be part of this event, our third appearance at the European Games, after 2015 in Baku and 2019 in Minsk.

“The best European athletes are here, and the best referees are also here; so, we can expect two days of the best Karate here in Bielsko-Biala. Thank you, Polish Karate Union president Pawel Poltorzecki and Competition Technical Delegate Konrad Poltorzecki, for making this event a reality.”

Following the competition draw, athletes got to know their matches and their path to becoming the new champions of the European Games. Thrilling clashes between some of the biggest heroes of the sport are expected at the event in Bielsko-Biala. The Karate event of the European Games is scheduled from June 22 to June 23. Medal bouts and finals are held at the end of each competition day.

No less than 96 athletes from 33 countries are registered to participate in the Karate competition of the 2023 European Games. Spain topped the medal table of the last edition of the Karate competition of the European Games with three gold medals, followed by Italy and Ukraine with two gold medals each.
