In a landmark meeting of karate officials, Davor Cipek, President of the Croatian Karate Union, General Secretary of the European Karate Federation (EKF) and Assistant General Secretary of the World Karate Federation (WKF), visited the World Karate Federation (WKF) headquarters in Madrid, Spain. The purpose of the visit was to engage in discussions with WKF and EKF President Antonio Espinós, focusing on the global and European landscape of karate and to strategize for upcoming events in the 2024 calendar.
The meeting was an opportunity for the officials to come together and assess the current state of karate worldwide. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including the coordination of efforts to further elevate the sport’s profile and the preparation and coordination of upcoming events in the 2024 season, mainly focused on the EKF calendar. The EKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships are scheduled to be held in Tbilisi (Georgia) from February 9 to 11, while the EKF Senior Championships will be held in Zadar (Croatia) from May 8 to 12.
WKF and EKF President Antonio Espinós said:
“We are working together to ensure that karate reaches new heights. By fostering strong relationships between national federations, continental organisations, and the world governing body, we can collectively shape the future of our beloved sport.
“Meetings like the one we had in Madrid are crucial to ensuring that our sport continues to thrive on both the global and European stages, and I want to thank Mr Cipek for taking the time to sit with us today.”
