Karate Represented at EOC Coordination Commission Meeting in Istanbul to Review Preparations for the 4th European Games 2027

The Coordination Commission (CoCom) of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) met in Istanbul as part of the ongoing preparations for the 4th European Games, scheduled to take place in June 2027 in Istanbul, Türkiye. Karate was represented at the meeting by the President of the Turkish Karate Federation and Executive Committee member of the European Karate Federation, Ercument Tasdemir.

The meeting was chaired by EOC Executive Committee member and President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Romania, Mihai Covaliu. It brought together all key stakeholders involved in the organisation of the European Games. Among those in attendance were EOC President Spyros Capralos, the Republic of Türkiye’s Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak, Acting Mayor of Istanbul Mr Nuri Aslan, President of the NOC of Türkiye Ahmet Gülüm, and President of the Istanbul 2027 European Games Organising Committee, Prof. Dr. Veli Ozan Cakir.

The Commission reviewed the overall status of preparations for the 4th edition of the European Games, with updates provided on governance, venues, operations, and coordination between institutions. The 4th European Games will be held in Istanbul in June 2027 and will once again feature karate on the official sports programme.

World Karate Federation (WKF) President Antonio Espinós commented:
