EKF Executive Committee Reviews Future of European Karate Ahead of Frankfurt 2026 Championships

The Executive Committee of the European Karate Federation gathered in Frankfurt, Germany, on Tuesday ahead of the start of the 2026 EKF Senior Championships. The meeting brought together all committee members to review the current situation of karate in Europe and prepare for the elective EKF Congress scheduled later in the day.

The session covered key topics linked to the development and organization of karate across the continent. The agenda included the report of the EKF President, approval of the minutes from the previous Executive Committee meeting in Limassol, Cyprus, and updates on upcoming championships from the EKF Organizing Commission.

Special attention was given to Para-Karate. Wolfgang Weigert and Eliza Gawel presented reports on the Para-Karate events held in Yerevan in 2025 and the preparations for Frankfurt 2026. The Executive Committee also received updates from the Referee, Technical and Medical Commissions.

The members discussed the EKF calendar for 2027 and finalized preparations for the upcoming EKF Congress, one of the most crucial institutional meetings for European karate.

EKF President Antonio Espinós praised the growth of karate in Europe and the work carried out by the national federations in recent years.

“European karate continues to grow in quality, organization and visibility. Our athletes, coaches and federations are raising the level of the sport every year, and this is reflected in the success of our championships.”

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to German Karate Federation President and WKF Vice President Wolfgang Weigert and the German Karate Federation for their support and commitment to our sport. Their work to bring the biggest event of European karate to Germany has been remarkable and we are confident that Frankfurt 2026 will be an outstanding championship,” he added.

The 2026 EKF Senior Championships will officially begin Wednesday in Frankfurt, bringing together Europe’s top karate athletes in one of the major events of the international karate calendar.
