The countdown is on for one of Europe’s biggest karate events of the year. From May 7 to 11, Yerevan, Armenia, will host the 2025 EKF Senior Championships — one of the most anticipated Karate events on the continent, as it will decide who takes the crown as the new kings and queens of European karate.

WHAT
- The EKF Senior Championships is Karate’s first-class event in Europe.
- The tournament reaches its 60th edition and follows the successful editions in Guadalajara (Spain) in 2023 and in Zadar (Croatia) in 2024.
- The 2025 EKF Senior Championships gather the best Karate athletes in Europe in senior divisions, individual and team, and in Para-Karate.
WHERE
- The tournament takes place in the city of Yerevan, Armenia, at the Karen Demyrchian Sports and Concerts Complex.
- It is the first time that Yerevan is hosting a major Karate event.
- The Eastern European country, a growing protagonist of the sport on the continent, is also set to host the 2027 edition of the EKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships.
WHEN
- The event is scheduled from May 7 to 11.
- The eliminations of individual competitions will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
- The eliminations of the Team competition will take place on Thursday and Friday.
- The eliminations and bronze medal bouts in Para-Karate will be held on Friday.
- The opening ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at 19.00.
- The bronze medal bouts and finals of the individual categories are scheduled on Saturday.
- The bronze medal bouts and finals of team categories are slated for Sunday.

WHO
- Over 550 athletes from 50 countries have registered to take part in the event.
- The event last year in Zadar gathered 570 athletes from 51 countries. Powerhouse nation of Turkiye topped the medal table with 10 medals, including 3 golds, followed by Germany, with 3 golds, and hosts of Croatia with 3 golds.
- No less than 8 of the 12 defending champions will compete in Yerevan. Dilara Bozan (TUR), Ema Sgardelli (CRO), Mia Bitsch (GER), Johanna Kneer (GER), Christos-Stefanos Xenos (GRE), Ivan Martinac (CRO), Konstantinos Mastrogiannis (GRE) and Andjelo Kvesic (CRO) will all try to keep the continental crown in Yerevan, with the categories of Female Kumite -61kg and 68kg, Male Kata, and Male Kumite -67kg looking for a new champion.
HOW
- The tournament follows a Knockout competition system.
- All the elimination rounds of each of the categories are held back-to-back, with the medal bouts being held on Saturday and Sunday.
WHAT ELSE
- The EKF Senior Championships will be even more crucial as the competition is a qualifying event for the upcoming World Senior Individual Championships to be held in Cairo (Egypt) in November. The gold, silver, and highest bronze medallists in each category will earn a direct ticket to the world event in Cairo.

- The full competition, including eliminations and medal bouts will be available LIVE on the WKF YouTube channel and a number of TV networks around the world.
