The Executive Committee of the European Karate Federation (EKF) met in Limassol, Cyprus, during the 2026 EKF Cadet, Junior and U21 Championships to review the current status of karate across the continent.
The meeting was headed by EKF and World Karate Federation (WKF) President Antonio Espinos. Members of the EKF Executive Committee were in attendance, and the meeting was hosted by the President of the Cyprus Karate Federation, Fotis Marathovouniotis.
The session opened with welcome addresses from President Espinos and President Marathovouniotis, followed by EKF President’s report, focusing on recent developments and key priorities for European karate.
The Executive Committee approved the minutes of previous EKF Executive Committee meetings before turning to financial matters. Members also reviewed the future long-term calendar of EKF events, as well as reports of the Organising Committee Chairman Marton Falusi, on the 2026 EKF Championships. This included updates on the Cadet, Junior and U21 Championships in Limassol and the EKF Senior Championships scheduled to take place in Frankfurt, Germany. Reports from the Chairs of the EKF Commissions, including the Technical, Referee and Medical Commissions, were also presented.
EKF President Antonio Espinos underlined the positive direction of the sport in Europe. “Karate in Europe continues to grow in quality, structure and reach. We have made strong progress in popularity, events and development. At the same time, we are working on many projects that will further support athletes, coaches, referees and national federations across the continent, while putting a strong focus on continuing to elevate the excellence of our events across the continent, especially this year’s tournaments in Limassol and Frankfurt and next year’s events scheduled to take place in Armenia and France”
